If you think you may be pregnant, taking a home pregnancy test is often the first step. However, confirming your pregnancy at The Hope Clinic can provide more accurate information about your pregnancy, health, and available options.
Our medical confirmation service includes both pregnancy testing and an ultrasound. These steps work together to give you a clear understanding of what is happening in your body and protect your health.
If you think you may be pregnant and want reliable answers, schedule an appointment to receive information and support.
Medical-Grade Pregnancy Testing
All pregnancy tests work by detecting a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). This hormone is produced during pregnancy after the embryo implants in the uterine wall. It can be detected in urine or blood.
According to the Mayo Clinic, pregnancy tests are about 99% accurate when used correctly. But they only confirm the presence of the hormone and do not provide details about the pregnancy itself.
Ultrasound Scans Are Essential
An ultrasound scan provides additional information that a pregnancy test cannot show and period trackers cannot accurately provide.
The scan can confirm the location of the pregnancy and determine how far along the pregnancy is (gestational age). It can also detect signs that the pregnancy is progressing to rule out miscarriage, when a pregnancy ends naturally before the 20th week.
Knowing this information reveals your options, as the abortion pill is only FDA-approved through ten weeks of gestation. If an ultrasound detects a miscarriage, the abortion pill would not be applicable, and medical treatment may be necessary.
Additionally, an ultrasound tells you the location of your pregnancy. If your pregnancy is located outside the uterus (ectopic pregnancy), it is a medical emergency, requiring immediate care to prevent life-threatening bleeding.
